Things to Do in Green Hills

Nashville's Green Hills neighborhood, known for its upscale ambiance and vibrant culture, offers a perfect backdrop for a day of exploration and enjoyment. It’s a microcosm of Nashville's charm, from boutique shopping and fine dining to leisurely strolls in lush parks. Whether you're a local, a visitor, or moving to Nashville and curious about the area, discover the quaint cafes, unique shops, and peaceful green spaces that make a day in Green Hills an experience filled with delightful surprises and local flavor.

Fuel Up at Noshville Delicatessen

This cleverly named deli combines New York City attitude with Southern hospitality and simple but perfectly executed food. It’s an excellent choice for breakfast or lunch, and the fact that it’s been open since 1996 and makes frequent appearances on “best of” lists suggests that you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. While it’s located in one of Nashville’s most expensive neighborhoods, prices at the deli are very accessible.

With that said, Noshville has earned its stellar reputation on classic East Coast style staples. Think everything bagels with lox and a shmear of plain cream cheese, matzah ball soup, pastrami or corned beef sandwiches piled high, and potato latkes (shredded potato pancakes). Service is generally quick, but prepare for a bit of a wait to get a table on weekends and holidays. Noshville also offers catering and is known for its special holiday menus for Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Hanukkah.

Stroll Over to Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery

Explore Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery

Just a few blocks west of the beautiful Nashville luxury homes in Green Hills, you could easily spend an entire day (or weekend!) at Belle Meade Historic Site & Winery. Experiences here highlight the estate’s equine and plantation history, including a dedicated “Journey to Jubilee” tour diving into the experiences of enslaved African Americans at Belle Meade. A popular field trip destination for schools in Nashville, Belle Meade is an excellent outing for groups with people of different ages and interests. And because no two visits are exactly the same, it’s also ideal for locals and visitors alike.

Start with a guided tour of the mansion or grounds, or if you’re pressed for time, consider booking a grounds-only tour, which is a self-guided option. Either way, you’ll get the lay of the land and have the opportunity to decide where to pop into next. Belle Meade Winery—the oldest in Nashville—offers complimentary wine tastings with all paid admissions along with themed food, wine pairings, and bourbon experiences.

Southern Food Traditions combines a walking tour, history lesson, and food samples into one, while families with young children can book tours designed specifically for ages 4 to 12. These tours include access to an outdoor game area and additional hands-on activities.

Belle Meade is also a popular venue for weddings and other special events and hosts special seasonal events as well.

Retail Therapy at The Mall at Green Hills

This Nashville neighborhood is well-known for its excellent shopping, so a visit to The Mall at Green Hills is a must. It’s considered one of the best shopping destinations in all of Tennessee, and it’s hugely popular for Nashville vacations and staycations in addition to daily retail needs. The shops here lean more upscale and specialty, with options such as Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., and the state’s only Yves Saint Laurent. You’ll also find plenty of familiar favorites, including Nordstrom, Zara, Apple, Abercrombie & Fitch, Macy’s, and more.

The mall is also a great place to grab a bite to eat, with over a dozen options. One of the highlights is RH Courtyard Restaurant at Restoration Hardware Nashville. Not only is this gorgeous indoor-outdoor space the only RH restaurant in Tennessee, but it’s easily one of the most Instagrammable places in the city. In addition to RH Courtyard, the mall has several options ranging from grab-and-go, like Starbucks coffee and Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, to sports bars and favorites, such as Carrabba’s Italian Grill.

End Your Day at The Bluebird Cafe

In addition to its sprawling luxury homes and high-end shopping, the other major attraction Green Hills is known for is The Bluebird Cafe. Tucked away in a nondescript shopping center, visitors are often surprised that it’s one of Nashville’s must-see attractions, where countless A-list country music singers got their start. But don’t judge a book by its cover—Taylor Swift, Lady A, and Garth Brooks, among many others, all played The Bluebird Cafe in their early days.

Attending a performance here is one of the best things to do in Nashville and the perfect way to wrap up a day in Green Hills. The 90-seat venue is intimate, and the vibe is quiet—an authentic listening room experience. Check the performance calendar and buy tickets as early as possible because almost all shows sell out. Tickets start at just $10.00.
