The Best Chinese Food in Nashville

It seems as if almost everyone uses a different standard when evaluating a Chinese restaurant, but some Nashville favorites score high in many categories, including ambience, price, quality of the food, service and speed of take-out order preparation.

Based on a number of different reviews, here are the winners of a recent ratings review:

China Spring

Located in the Belleview area, this community favorite features online ordering and speedy delivery as well as a convenient dining-in location at 8165 TN-100. Classic dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients and contemporary flair, and daily lunch specials are available daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Portions are large, prices are reasonable, and the restaurant is typically crowded in the evening, but service is friendly and efficient as well. Some favorites include egg foo young and shrimp dishes.

Tansuo

Described as a hidden treasure, Tansuo at 121B 12th Ave. N. serves contemporary Chinese cuisine, including dim sum, in an elegant atmosphere that makes it perfect for special occasions with a group or for date night with a special person. This gem of a unique eatery features Wok and Wonton Wednesdays, Dim Sum Mondays, Sunday brunch, and happy hour appetizer specialties as well as unique cocktails. You're sure to rave about the food and the atmosphere, but consider making a reservation to avoid disappointment. A bonus is the chef-led cooking classes available at Tansuo!

Corner Asian Cafe

Some people say if you love Crab Rangoon, Corner Asian serves the best in town, while others sing the praises of the Hot Sour Soup and authentic Szechuan-style recipes. One thing is certain: the place is consistently busy! At 10656 Concord Rd., the location may be unassuming, but don't let that keep you away. Locals recommend asking for the "secret" Chinese menu! Take the hint.

Lucky Bamboo

Although the service can at times be less than stellar, the friendliness and the food make up for any shortcomings, according to those who love this China bistro situated at 5855 Charlotte Pike. A dim sum and hotpot restaurant, Lucky Bamboo blends the exotic and the familiar, good for a meal or an experience almost any time. With banquet facilities for up to 300 guests, it can also handle large celebrations with aplomb. The specialty restaurant, which features dim sum brunch as well as Cantonese dishes, is open seven days a week, even on major holidays.

China Cottage

Although it's a bit farther afield than some other Chinese restaurants, China Cottage is a good bet if you want traditional favorites: General Tso's Chicken, shrimp with garlic sauce and crab rangoon are said to be delicious. But those in the know say that if you have a special favorite, ask for it. Popular off-menu items include Kung Pao Pork and Mongolian tofu! The restaurant has been serving satisfied patrons for more than 15 years. It's located at 1795 Gallatin Pike N., in Madison, TN.

Chinatown

If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, Chinatown is the right place for you. From the crispy lobster to the scallion pancakes, the food here is amazing. Peking duck is one of their specialties and they provide many lunch specials throughout the week.

Bao Down

(edit: permanently closed)

For something out of the mainstream, try this food truck. Billed as "handcrafted local Chinese street food," menu items are a treat for the spirit as well as being unusually good. You'll sometimes find it downtown, but it's typically around at Nashville's street fairs and outdoor gatherings, especially when the weather's good and crowds are expected. If you see it around town, head on over. It's worth it!

Nashville has as many options for good eats as it has for good music; so if you see an interesting new arrival on the Chinese food scene, you might want to try it.
