Senator of State Abram Maury, Jr. founded Franklin City in 1799. He named the town after the sixth president f the United States, Benjamin Franklin. Its downtown is surrounded with thriving businesses, including various kinds of eateries and boutiques all along Franklin’s Main Street. Its top 10 employers include CoolSprings Galleria, Lee Company, Community Health Systems, Progeny Marketing Innovations, Williamson Medical Center, Mars Petcare US, Nissan North America, Healthways, Verizon and Aim Healthcare Services. This is literally a “who’s who” list of successful businesses helping to support the national and local economy.

CoolSprings Galleria ranks first among the 10 is a shopping mall which is enclosed comprising of five department stores and more than one hundred sixty five stores. It employs 3,500 workers as of 2010.

Franklin is also home to actresses Nicole Kidman and Ashley Judd and their husbands musician Keith Urban and Indy Driver Dario Franchitti respectively and many more famous musicians such as Jeremy Davis, Alex Beaton, Rick Vito, Hayley Williams, etc.

Its famous festivals include Wine Down Main Street, Main Street Festival and Pumpkinfest to name a few. Wine Down Main Street is an event associated with wine tasting and is held every 1st Friday in the month of November. This event is held annually, primarily to benefit the “Boys and Girls Club” of Franklin or Williamson County. Crafts and arts booth are gathered together in line along Main Street from 1st to 5th Avenue during the Main Street Festival in which over 200 crafters and artisans, 2 carnivals, 4 stages and 2 food courts are present at Downtown District and Franklin Square.

The Pumpkinfest helps to raise funds for the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County on a yearly basis when it is held on Saturday right before the Halloween. The event is comprised of many activities, usually themed on Halloween and its major entertainment includes music, artisans who are local, and entertainment and food for adults and kids alike.

Franklin is a town filled with fun and exciting things to do and the yearly events make it so that there is never a loss for something to do.
