The Germantown Lifestyle

What's the Germantown Lifestyle Like?

The Germantown neighborhood is directly northwest of downtown Nashville. It's a quiet place where people can live while being right next to the downtown area, without being in the downtown area. Germantown was named for the influx of German immigrants who moved into this part of Nashville in the 1800s. Many Old World-style homes and properties are still standing to this day in this walkable neighborhood. Close access to the I-40/I-65 merger makes commuting anywhere in Nashville from here easy.

The southern boundary of Germantown is Jefferson Street, and the western boundary is Rosa Parks Boulevard. The northern boundary is Hume Street, and to the east is the Cumberland River. Thanks to significant redevelopment in recent decades, Germantown has attracted many new small businesses, indie stores, and restaurants. German food, drink, and family-friendly activities happen here every fall during the Nashville Oktoberfest.

Despite the urban feel, there is plenty of access to green spaces in and near Germantown. The Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park and First Tennessee Park are directly south of the neighborhood. Residents also have convenient access to the Cumberland River Greenway for jogging, biking, or walking.

Types of Homes in Germantown

Modern townhouses and classical architectural styles make up most of the homes in Germantown. The north side of the neighborhood has seen several new mid-rise condo developments in recent years, but for the most part, consists of single-family homes. Most of the houses fall within the Italianate, Queen Anne, and Eastlake styles.

Condos in Germantown typically start in the low $400s, although older luxury condos can be found for more than $2 million. Single-family homes tend to be priced in the mid $600s, while luxury homes for sale are often in the $1.5 million range.
