Old Hickory is a small metropolitan in Nashville. It was named in honor after President Andrew Jackson. His nickname happens to be "Old Hickory." The neighborhood is located in the eastern portion of Davidson County in a section called the Hadley Bend.
Old Hickory's Past
This is a neighborhood that was best known when it was considered a company town for a plant called DuPont. A lot of the residential structures in the town were originally built so the employees and supervisors had a place to live that was close to the DuPont plant.
Old Hickory's Present
The north and west side of Old Hickory is bordered by water called the Cumberland River. The Old Hickory Lake can also be found on the east border. Old Hickory Boulevard is the name of the main street that cuts through this neighborhood.
Today, Old Hickory is home to a country club, a Chamber of Commerce, a city park, and the DuPont Plant. The DuPont Plant has mostly been shut down. It does, however, continue to employee a couple hundred people. The National Weather Service Office is located near the neighborhood in Wilson County. The office does have an Old Hickory address though.
Notable People from Old Hickory
Ken Shipp is a professional football coach from the Old Hickory village. Jack Kershaw is the name of an attorney from Old Hickory that became famous when he represented James Earl Ray. James Earl Ray being the criminal activist who was convicted for assassinating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
There are some people who call Old Hickory their home. There are some people who call it a historic neighborhood. There are even some people who say it is the place where their grandfather worked at the DuPont plant. Old Hickory is a place of history that most people cannot wait to discover.
