Where to Go in Nashville in August

Nashville has some of the hottest events any month of the year, but August might just take first place for the literal definition of the term. The long days and plentiful sun make it easy to let loose and really feel the spirit of the summer. Thankfully, this city is full of people who want to make it easier to kick off those heels. Those planning out their summers in advance will want to keep the following Nashville, TN August events on their radar.

Tomato Art Fest

With so much color in the many tomato varieties of the world, it's a wonder we need a festival to celebrate their artistic qualities. Guests will find some exceptionally creative works at the Tomato Art Fest, along with food, contests, and music. Visitors can try their hand in a Bloody Mary contest or enter the Beautiful Tomato Pageant. This fun festival has been a tradition in East Nashville for 16 years. Feel free to come in costume, but be prepared for crowds. Last year drew more than 60,000 to the beloved (and trendy) neighborhood that is East Nashville. And for those attending with little ones, there are plenty of activities for children too.

  • When: August 9 – 10
  • Where: Five Points
  • Cost: $30 (general admission)

Live On the Green

Those looking for something on the affordable side can check out Live on the Green for a little free music. Nashville has such a long history with music, giving artists of every variety the perfect platform to try new material, find new fans, and have a blast in the process. Their fans may not have paid anything for their performance, but it doesn't make them any less grateful for the tunes. These concerts take place throughout August and September, giving everyone plenty of time to schedule one or two into their calendars. The lineup for 2019 includes O.A.R., Guster, Gary Clark Jr., Grace Potter, and Johnnyswim.

  • When: August 15, 22, 29
  • Where: Public Square Parking Lot
  • Cost: Free

The Best of the Best

Visitors to Nashville who want to experience the joy of the more in-demand DJs and acts in Nashville can attend this no-holds-barred block party, the Best of the Best Festival. Guests who attend this event should come prepared for the extreme sounds of Jamaica because this party is sure to be as loud as it is action-packed. Be ready for a night full of dancing, revelry, and surprises. This is the seventh year for the festival, and its organizers have changed the format this year to make it even bigger and better than in years past.

  • When: August 3 – 4 (9:59 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.)
  • Where: Island Vibes
  • Cost: $25 – 30

Defy Film Festival

Those who can't get enough of the film industry will want to attend the Defy Film Festival. Those who come are dedicated to the art of making a movie that touches its audience and leaves them with a strong message. Visitors will find filmmakers, critics, and movie buffs everywhere they turn. Those who manage the festival opt for unusual films from all over the world, so the audience can widen their perspective and learn more about the struggles and triumphs of the cultures and characters that define our present and predict our future. The key word is inspiration for everyone in attendance.

  • When: Aug 23 – 24
  • Where: Studio 615 (East Nashville)
  • Cost: To Be Announced

The events in Nashville are as amazing as the people who organize and attend them. Trying a new event this year is a great way for visitors and locals alike to learn more about their passions and talents. The warm nights in the city will be that much more memorable with the right concert, film, or dance moves.
