Top Nashville TN Mexican Restaurants

There's just something about Mexican food that brings people together. Perhaps it is the savory flavors that are mixed with just the right amount of spice, or maybe it's the tequila-filled margaritas that keep people coming back for more. In Nashville, there's an abundance of Mexican restaurants to try, and each one has something different to offer.

These restaurants are considered to be the best places to grab a Mexican meal in Nashville:

Taco Mamacita

This is one of the most famous Mexican restaurants in Tennessee. Boasting two locations, one in Chattanooga and another in Nashville, Taco Mamacita is renowned for its homemade guacamole and its tequila flights. Its Nashville location serves lunch, dinner and drinks every day—and there's even brunch available on the weekends. Most people who dine at this Mexican restaurant in Nashville opt to begin their meal with an appetizer of fresh guacamole, homemade salsa or queso dip. Then, they continue with an array of unique tacos, such as the Caribbean Jerk Taco or the California Club Taco that includes chicken, bacon and a chipotle cream sauce.

Butchertown Hall

Butchertown Hall is one of Nashville’s new favorite places to eat. It’s a Texas-inspired and German-influenced concept according to general manager Shane O’Brien. Created by restauranteur Terry Raley, owner of the Pharmacy and Holland House, Butchertown is inspired by his Texas Hill Country upbringing and favorite German and Mexican flavors fused together. Here is a look at this new restaurant that just opened on Valentine’s Day of 2015.

Visiting Butchertown

When you arrive, you’ll notice the smokey scent right away from the Grillworks Infierno 96 Grill. You’ll love the beautiful natural light, high ceilings and the large open feel of the space. Among the two-top tables, four-top and community tables, there is a moss rock wall separating the dining area from the bar.

The restaurant can hold 130 indoors and 120 on the patio which will open in the spring. The dress code is casual attire and they do not take reservations. You can visit the restaurant daily from 11am-10pm or later, plus there is a special weekend brunch at 10am. The location is 1416 4th Avenue North in Nashville.

Menu

The restaurant offers beer, liquor and wine. There is a strong focus on the tequila and mescal, which isn’t accessible within 500 miles of Nashville making this a really exciting thing to try at Butchertown. Along with specialty tequilas and mescal, there is a small selection of well liquor and boutique wines.

The beer program at the restaurant is really important with small-batch, private beers made by local breweries. You’ll find brews from Little Harpeth, Jackalope, Blackstone, Czann’s and Bearded Iris. Not only are you getting local beer, but these breweries have made custom beers only found at Butchertown Hall.

Since the restaurant is focused heavily on meats, the outdoor smoke runs 24 hours a day requiring new wood every 30 minutes. You’ll find delicious meats like chicken, beef brisket and sausage, plus the menu offers fajitas, sandwiches, tacos and burgers.

A smaller place with bold flavors, Las Cazuelas is a great choice for Mexican. They serve many seafood choices with a Mexican twist and the "Mariachi Brunch" is one of the best in the city.

Bakersfield

Bakersfield is quickly becoming one of the most renowned Mexican restaurants in the Midwest, and it is particularly well-loved in Nashville. It is famous for its simplistic menu that features classic Mexican dishes. While its dining menu may be short and sweet, its tequila menu is extensive. This restaurant features more than 100 different kinds of tequila, allowing true tequila aficionados to choose the drink that best complements their meal. The restaurant is open for both lunch and dinner throughout the week, and its menu includes tortas, tostadas and street tacos. Nashville locals also may consider this location for private or catered events.

Las Paletas

A Paletas is somewhat like a frozen popsicle, but they contain fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts. The paletas treat is originally from Mexico. A pair of sisters, Norma and Irma Paz, established Las Paletas in 2001. Located at 12th South community in Nashville, this duo has managed to bring a significant amount of culture to the area.

About Las Paletas

It was the Paz sister’s desire to share authentic Mexican treats in the Nashville area. Establishing Las Paletas allowed the sister’s to adventure into being business owners, and gave them the flexibility to tend to their families.  The career began with Irma making Paleta in a western Mexico City.  Paleta making has been a generational thing in the Paz family. Norma’s main role was to set up the business side of Las Paletas in Nashville.

The Paletas

Las Paletas makes their paletas in house, and they have a large variety of paletas for patrons to try. Cream paletas are like ice cream, while the fruit paletas is more like a traditional popsicle. The freshest ingredients are used to create the Pez sister’s paletas. The ingredients include fruit, veggies, grains, nuts, flowers and herbs.

Las Paletas creates a variety of 20 different flavors each day, sometimes more.  Classic Mexican paletas flavors include lime, tamarind, pineapple with chili peppers, hibiscus, avocado, “hot” chocolate with chili peppers, and Mexican caramel. You will find other flavors as well, such as peanut butter, chocolate banana, chocolate with chocolate chips and seasonal flavors. Seasonal flavors have included  pumpkin, corn, basil and lime with mint.

Hours and Location

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm, Sunday and Monday from 11am to 5pm. The street address is 2911 12th Avenue South. Come in and try authentic paletas. You will be surprised how tasty this Mexican treat is.

Mas Tacos Por Favor

Mas Tacos Por Favor began ten years ago as a food truck that traveled around Nashville, offering its residents and visitors food that featured distinct Mexican flavors and characteristics. Today, it is its own restaurant—and one of the most beloved Mexican spots in Nashville. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday, serving both lunch and dinner. Diners who stop by this location often quickly fall in love with the various street taco options that are available. There's always something new to try here, yet the classic menu items that people have come to request are also a mainstay.
