Hendersonville TN Information

Hendersonville Tennessee was for a long time a small farming community located outside Nashville and was known for....well not much at all really. However in the mid 1960's the Army Corp of Engineers built a dam on the Cumberland River that created Old Hickory Lake and transformed almost over night the fortunes of the residents of Hendersonville and the made some land lake front property!

With the introduction of the Vietnam Veterans Expressway from I65 in to the heart of Hendersonville in the mid 1980's the growth of the area as an attractive commuter settlement continued.

Country Music Stars

Country music starts began to popularize the lake homes and some of these lake homes were featured in the country music magazines about the live's and homes of the stars. Jonny Cash, Conway Twitty and Roy Orbison were just some of the stars that made their home here on Old Hickory Lake.

Growth Slow Down in the 80's

By the late 80's and early 90's the residents of Hendersonville seemed to be getting a little tired of the rapid growth and as a result the city management created some barriers and restrictions to growth. However, this seemed to backfire a little as Franklin became the main focus of economic development and investment for the rest of the 90's.

Forward Sumner Initiative

In the early part of the new millennium Forward Sumner was formed in order to kick start the local economy and once again raise the profile of the City of the lake and all that it has to offer new residents and businesses alike.

Now the growth and economic boom is here again. The new retail developments at GlennBrooke and Indian Lake Village have brought renewed confidence and level of interest to the area. new restaurants are popping up almost every week and new subdivisions are continually breaking ground it seems.

The city management is prepared for the growth this time and new schools and infrastructure have all been carefully co-ordinated and planned to keep up with the growth.
