Half the ranking score was derived from a survey of corporate site electors, which ranked Tennessee sixth nationally.
"Corporate site selectors' input is crucial. They indicate which 10 states they think have the best business climate based on their experience of managing property assets around the country," wrote the magazine's editor, Mark Arend, in the article announcing the latest ranks. The ranking also took into account the state's performance in categories including new or expanded projects and new plant performance. Tennessee ranked eighth in terms of total new or expanded projects in 2005, and 12th in new plant performance.
