If you've been following this blog for any length of time (and what great taste you have) then you'll know that we've already touched on the subject of Nashville being referred to as the "Athens of the South". The reason Nashville got this name is that for a long, long time before Nashville was known for producing the very best in country music it was better known for it's leading approach to higher education and for being the first city in the United States to have a public school system.
This academic heritage has remained part of the city ever since then and even today you’ll find that some of the schools in "Music City" are ranked as some of the very best in the entire country - and that's not just some idle boast. The simple fact is that both Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School and Martin Luther King Jr. High School are ranked in position #36 and #90 respectively on a national basis. Receiving these scores meant that each school had to be awarded either a gold or silver medal for their overall academic performance.
Now from a parent’s point of view you're obviously concerned that your children get the best start in life and education is a key aspect of that. Even better would know that the high school your kids are attending has higher test scores than any other school in the city, any other school in the state and also most of the other high schools in the country. Does that sound like something of a pipe dream to you? The fact is that both Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School and Martin Luther King Jr. High School can offer your children that same high level of education that you dream of them having. It's also worth noting that the two high schools mentioned above score consistently well each year - this isn't just an educational once off, as it were.
