History

This auditorium is known as the "Mother Church of Country Music". It was originally constructed in 1892. At the time it had a different name, Union Gospel Tabernacle. Unfortunately, the structure was doomed to be destroyed as plans to smash it to pieces with a wrecking ball were put in place in 1970.

Fortunately, country leaders and preservationists in the area had other plans. The only time any renovations have been done to this structure was in 1992. Even then, it was a very small renovation as a lobby was added to the street side of the structure.

What will the Face Lift Include

Naturally, everyone wants to know what exactly a $14 million facelift looks like. What are they spending all that money? The expansion is going to include:

  • New Box Office
  • Bigger Lobby
  • Dedicated CafĂ©
  • Expanded Retail Area
  • More Restrooms
  • New Event Spaces
  • Better Beverages and Food Options
  • More Concession Services

One of the big questions on people's minds is where exactly is this money going to be coming from? A representative from the auditorium said that citizens do not have anything to worry about. There are no plans to use your tax paying dollars to fund this facelift. In fact, the Ryman Hospitality Properties is paying for the entire bill.

The next big question people have been asking is when this facelift is going to take place? After all, construction and renovation can be noisy. The locals want to be prepared for when they can expect all of that noise to take place. According to the representative of the auditorium, the facelift is scheduled to break ground towards the end of the year.
