Finding the right neighborhood in Nashville is only difficult because there are so many great choices. Some of the best areas in the Music City cater strictly to families or to singles, but many of the neighborhoods feature a variety of residents. Here's a breakdown of some of the top areas throughout the city.

5 Points in East Nashville

Found east of the Cumberland River and along Woodland Avenue, 5 Points is known as one of the most hip neighborhoods in the city. This is a historic area with plenty of great shops and restaurants within walking distance. The Hot Chicken Festival is found here each year, along with the Tomato Art Fest. The neighborhood is also home to Beyond the Edge, Lipstick Lounge, The 5 Spot, 3 Crow Bar, Cafe Margot, I Dream of Weenie, Pied Piper creamery and Bongo Java Roasting Company.

Elliston Place

Found east of Centennial Park and just north of Vanderbilt University, this neighborhood caters to the college crowd. It's known for some of the best live music venues in the area including Exit/Inn. Many of the well-known hole-in-the-wall bars are found here including Corner Bar, Gold Rush and Aladdin's Hookah Bar.

Hillsboro Village

If you're searching for a neighborhood with a little less live music than most, Hillsboro Village might be the right choice. It's found near the Belmont and Vanderbilt campus and considered one of the most pedestrian friendly neighborhoods in all of Nashville. You'll find plenty of little shops and restaurants along the tree-lined streets. Belcourt Theater provides most of the entertainment within the area including art and indie films.

The Gulch

Found along 11th and 12th avenue, this neighborhood is known for the many modern condo buildings, which are currently in the development process. The Venerable Station Inn and City Hall are the two music venues found in The Gulch. These two venues provide plenty of local and national rock bands, along with bluegrass performers. The neighborhood is also known for trendy bars, such as Twenty3 and plenty of fine dining, such as Sambuca and Watermark.
