As we are coming out of Nashville's officially dubbed Awesome April (a month-long recognition of the native musical culture), May is a celebration of the city's history and cuisine. Of course, throughout the month you'll have no trouble finding live music and good eating, but May is going to be an especially great month for the family. Check it out:
Cajun Fest – Amber Falls' annual Cajunfest is just around the corner on Saturday May 26th. Treat yourself to a day immersed in authentic cajun culture and finger-lickin-good cajun food. It's a great place to bring your family, too, as there'll be all sorts of entertainment throughout the day, from crawfish races to live music and more.
Memorial Day Weekend Celebrations – With Fort Campbell right around the corner, there are plenty of ways to express your patriotism this Memorial Day. You can attend the True American Heroes exhibit, swing by Opryland's Weekend Celebration, or attend the 101st Airborne weekend cookout. Honor the brave fallen through celebration of what they all fought for – Having a place to call home.
Tennessee Renaissance Festival – One of Nashville's more eclectic festivals, the annual Renaissance Festival is going to be held every weekend in May including Memorial Day. A real live joust is just one of the many events throughout the festival. You'll also enjoy perusing a unique assortment of foods and wares, all accompanied by the minstrels' thrums of medieval-era music. Kids under 5 get in free!
A Toast to Tennessee – Looking for some non-family fun? Treat your palate to a day of gourmet; Nashville's annual wine-tasting festival, A Toast to Tennessee, is on May 12 from 12 – 6 at Nashville Shores. Admission includes a never-ending glass of wine (that you get to keep!), live music, free food tasting, seminars, shopping and more.
