Established in 1856, Cheatham County is one of the many counties found near Nashville. It covers over 300 square miles and was named for Edward S. Cheatham. The county is found to the north and North West of Nashville, about 30 minutes from downtown.

As Nashville grows, counties around it, such as Cheatham County also grow. This county provides a number of smaller communities close enough to the larger city for commuting. Ashland City has many larger employers, but many of the residents in the other cities commute to Nashville or another major area for work.
