Now we are famous for producing some of the best country and folk music in the world but did you know that the education system in Nashville is so good we're actually referred to as the "Athens of the South"? The reason why we got this nickname is because way back in 1850 we were the first city in the United States to set up and run a public school system and other places of higher education also. Of course having a Parthenon in the middle of the city also helped the "Athens of the South" title to take hold.

Now the good news is that this claim/nickname is something Nashville can still be proud of today because the education standards in the city are excellent and the leading light in that area is the renowned Vanderbilt University with both Lipscomb and Belmont Universities following close behind.

It's not just the universities which give Nashville such a great reputation when it comes to education and with prep schools like Montgomery Bell Academy, Harpeth Hall and Ensworth in the area, children are almost guaranteed the best possible start in life when it comes to academic matters.

So it'll be a relief as a parent of a family of any age that your children can look forward to an excellent standard of both secondary and then university education. Even better is the fact that once students graduate from college or university in Nashville there are usually jobs waiting for them once they do - and all within the city limits.

Now you know that Nashville is famous for more than just its country music and being educated in the "Athens of the South" can't be a bad thing now can it?
