If you ask just about anyone on the street what Nashville is known for most, the first thing that will likely come to mind is the city’s thriving country music scene. And although that certainly hasn’t changed (or isn’t expected to), Nashville is also rapidly gaining a reputation for being the heart of America’s auto and healthcare industries, which are now helping boost the city’s population and driving the city’s red hot real estate market, which is also among the most robust in the U.S. right now.
Now home to more than 300 healthcare companies that provide over 430,000 jobs worldwide, the No. 1 industry in the Nashville area is now healthcare, and it’s really not even close. Long gone are the days when HCA and Community Healthy Systems were the only major players in the area’s healthcare sector, as now Nashville is home to a broad range of healthcare-related companies including BioMimetic Therapeutics, Cumberland Pharmaceuticals, and health technology provider Passport Health Communications.
As mentioned, though, the auto industry in Nashville is also on the rise, now providing over 30,000 jobs to Nashville area residents and growing. Local tourism is also seeing a significant boost in large part to the hit television series 'Nashville', with a record-breaking 13.1 million tourists visiting Music City in 2014.
