You have to check out Jeni’s Ice Cream. They make it from scratch with milk from grass-grazed cows and whole ingredients that were all blended, chopped, peeled, baked, pulverized and blowtorched by Jeni’s. There are no flavorings used in their products, ice cream mixes or chemical dyes.

Jeni Britton Bauer is the ice cream shop owner who has a background in ice cream, baking, perfume blending and essential oils. The team at Jeni’s makes all of the ice creams, sorbets and frozen yogurt from the ground up using local produce, grass-grazed milk, American bean-to-bar chocolate and world-wide ingredients. Here is a look at what you can experience at Jeni’s.

What to expect

Owner Jeni is always developing new flavors, working on a book and art directing new campaigns. She also spends her time with Local Matters, a Columbus-based non-profit she co-founded that works to provide fresh food for all.

You can find Jeni’s in three parts of Nashville. It’s been open in the East Nashville neighborhood since 2011 where the first full-size scoop shop found a home. It’s the perfect place for cyclists, pedestraians, families, artists, and urban famers come to visit. It’s located at 1892 Eastland Avenue and is open 11am-11pm Sunday through Saturday.

Another location is Jeni’s 12 South, the newest shop to open from 2013. It’s located at 2312 12th Avenue South with the same hours. Finally, you can check out Jeni’s at the Nashville Farmers’ Market located at 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd Sunday through Thursday from 11am-4pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-6pm.

Jeni’s flavors are never duplicated and often copied. They represent experimentation, toying around and building networks of ingredient producers while listening to customer suggestions. Enjoy toppings like salty caramel sauce, extra-bitter hot fudge sauce, and donut gravel on top of flavors like brown butter almond brittle, coffee with cream & sugar, wildberry lavender or yazoo sue with rosemary bar nuts.

You can’t help but love Jeni’s and it’s too unique to not come back regularly. Check it out around Nashville.
