If you're ready to escape the city for a day, you need to know where to go. Many of the best day trips can also be turned into weekend getaways, but they are close enough for just a day trip. Here are the top choices near Nashville for your next day away.

Franklin

This historic town is found just south of Nashville and you won't have to driver far to get there. It's only 30 minutes from downtown and provides plenty to keep you busy for the day. The Downtown Franklin District is filled with antique shops, boutiques, local restaurants and plenty of history.

Land Between the Lakes

If you love outdoor recreation and you don't mind a 90 minute drive to get there, Land Between the Lakes is the place for you. This is a 170,000-acre national recreation area and it's found off I-24 in Western Kentucky. You can enjoy all types of activities here including a Planetarium and Bison Prairie.

Bucksnort Trout Ranch

Are you ready to teach your kids how to fish or do you just want to go on a day fishing trip of your own? Escape to Bucksnort Trout Ranch for a day of fishing for Rainbow Trout. This natural area is found off I-40 near exit 152.

Birdsong Resort

Found about an hour from Nashville, Birdsong Resort is one of the top places for families to enjoy. It's the only freshwater pearl farm in the country and provides all types of fun. Fall Creek Falls State Park
