Franklin, Tennessee is only twenty miles south of the center of Nashville.  It has that small town feeling, but it’s close to Nashville and all the amenities that cosmopolitan city offers.  Franklin was founded in 1799 and was named after Ben Franklin who was a friend of one of the founders. The downtown area is built around a quaint and historic town square.  There is a Civil War Monument in the middle commemorating The Battle of Franklin.  Legend has it that ten thousand soldiers lost their lives in the first fifteen minutes of this battle.  It’s known as the bloodiest battle in American history.

Franklin, population 62,487 (2010 census), offers a variety of housing alternatives in a variety of price ranges.  There are exclusive gated communities like Ashton Park where the average price of a home is between $500,000 to $800,000. There are also many homes for less than $300,000 in other areas of town. The quality of these homes is evidenced by the fact that they have been selling at a brisk pace in recent months.

Franklin is a community with plenty of restaurants, shopping and things to do.  There are a multitude of attractions like the Lotz House Museum, Carter House, Historic Carton Plantation, McGavock Confederate Cemetery and the Boiler Room Theater.  In addition, there are several well-maintained parks for residents to enjoy.  One of the most popular parks is Bowie Nature Park.  It’s only a short drive from the center of town.  The park boasts over 700 acres of forestland. Bowie Nature Park encompasses several lakes and there are seventeen miles of trails for bicycling, fishing, horseback riding, hiking and picnicking.

The community supports many kinds of sports for children: ice hockey, volleyball, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, football and gymnastics.   Another type of sporting event, the Tennessee Senior Olympics are held in Franklin each July.  Over 1,600 seniors from all over Tennessee compete in this event.

Franklin is such a desirable community that it has attracted several famous residents.  Brad Paisley and his wife Kimberly Williams, Ashley Judd and Dario Franchitti, Kenny Chesney and even George Jones call Franklin home. People who visit Franklin proclaim it the quintessential southern city.  It really does ooze charm!
