BaseballBaseball season is about to start and many new residents may be wondering if Nashville has a baseball team. You already know they are home to an NFL team and many college teams, but what about baseball?

Introducing the Nashville Sounds

The Nashville Sounds are a Pacific Coast League team and they play in Herschel Greer Stadium. This Triple-A team is an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. However, they were originally established as a Double-A team in 1978.

The Sounds has been recognized in many ways throughout the years. In 1980, the team was recognized as one of the top 100 minor league teams of all time. They won the PCL championship in 2005 and have featured big name player over the years such as:

  • Rickie Weeks
  • Prince Fielder
  • Nelson Cruz
  • Yovani Gallardo
  • Ryan Braun
  • And Many More!

With fresh talent every year, looking to find their way to the big leagues, it gets pretty exciting.

Herschel Greer Stadium

The stadium the Nashville Sounds play in is called Herschel Greer Stadium. The venue was completed in 1978 and has been expanded many times. It seats 10,300 spectators, but is most known for the 115 foot guitar-shaped scoreboard.

This will only be the stadium for a few more years, however. In 2013, a new ballpark plan was approved and will be constructed in the downtown area of Nashville. It will take over the old location of Sulphur Dell ballpark. The new ballpark is expected to open in April 2015.
