The Baptist Healing Trust (BHT) in Nashville, Tennessee, is transferring its offices at 1919 Charlotte Ave to a building located at 2928 Sidco Drive.  BHT paid almost $1.25 million for the property which was owned by IKON Development LLC. The foundation for some time had been searching for a new office location, and the 6,600-square-foot building appears the right choice.

Chas. Hawkins Co. in Nashville helped BHT in the purchase negotiations. R. Stephen Prather, a broker from the company who represented the buyer, said that the building suits very well what the foundation is looking for. BHT had earlier considered relocating its offices to the Trolley Barns at Rolling Mill Hill.

Grant-giver Opts for Renovated Structure

The occupant of the building prior to the sale was IKON Construction, a general contractor and the seller’s sister company. The president of IKON Construction, Dave LeFeve, purchased the Sidco Drive property five years ago for $630,000; so a substantial profit was likely to have been realized with its sale. The building was renovated and served as the office of IKON Construction which has about fifteen employees. IKON Construction plans to move its operations to 4336 Kenilwood Drive which is one and a half mile from the sold building.

The BHT charity was formed ten years ago, with its funding coming from the proceeds of the sale of the Nashville Baptist Hospital to Ascension Health of St. Louis. It was established not only to extend grants to charitable health care organizations but also to organize workshops, consultations, and retreats for caregivers.

Since its foundation, BHT has extended over $55 million grants to local organizations and their projects. The Nashville Baptist Hospital was one of its major beneficiaries from 2002 to 2008. The BHT also extends awards of recognition to nonprofit groups.  These special awards are run by its Center for Nonprofit Management’s Salute to Excellence.
