LAKEWOOD, Tenn. - Residents in Lakewood have voted to surrender their charter and merge services with Metro-Nashville.
The Davidson County Election Commission said 458 voted to surrender Lakewood's charter. 447 voted against the charter proposal, with one provisional vote to be verified Wednesday.
Election officials said turn out was heavy. It was expected to match or exceed last year's turnout which was over 50 percent.
It's the second vote in less than a year. In August, the vote was 400 to 399 in favor of dissolving the city.
But city officials challenged the results, and claimed 13 people voted illegally. They filed a lawsuit claiming voter fraud and other irregularities.
